The Springfield Jr Hat Tricks are happy to announce that Nikita Kovalev has joined the team for the remainder of the season. The 2002 born forward hails from Greenwich, CT. He was a standout for two years at Greenwich High School before transferring and spending his final two years at the Taft School. Last year as a senior at Taft he recorded two goals and dished out nine helpers to total eleven points. Kovalev began this season in the MHL (Russia’s junior league) with MHK Atlant Mytishchi. In seven games there he had one assist before returning to the US.
Kovalev expressed his excitement about joining the Jr Hat Tricks saying, “I am glad to have a team take me in during these trying times. I am excited to be back playing in the US and hope to incorporate the skills I learned abroad into my game here.”
“We are very fortunate to add a player with Nikita’s skills, intelligence and compete level. I have watched his game develop since his time at Greenwich High School through his years at Taft. He had immediate chemistry with our players and fit in seamlessly right away. We are thrilled to have Nikita in the Orange and Black!” said head coach Kevin Cunningham.
